Coffee Bio:

This coffee comes from the Bugenyuzi washing station, near Bugenyuzi, the capital of the Karusi district, Central Burundi. The washing stations was built in 2014 and now processes the crop of 516 smallholders. It is part of the Dusangirirumugambi Cooperative.

Dusangirirumugambi Cooperative:

Dusangirirumugambi was formed in 2013 in the Karusi province. It means “Development for all”. They are currently running an agroforestry project aiming at preserving and rejuvenating the forest around the coffee plantations.

Process:

The cherries are picked at their peak of ripeness to maximise the sweetness and complexity of the coffee. They are then spread a thin layer on African raised beds made of fine mesh that allow air to flow all around the cherries. This prevents mold from developing and promotes even drying.
At the hottest time of the day, and at night, the coffee is wrapped up to prevent it from drying too fast, or reabsorbing moisture. The result is a beautifully consistent and clean cup profile.
