Coffee Bio:

Buyengero is a commune in the Rumonge District in Southwestern Burundi. This beautiful place is located a few kilometers east of the border with DRCongo, on top of a mountain looking over the Tanganyika Lake at the altitude of 1600 m.

Thanks to its fertile soil made of lime rocks, this area is the perfect place to grow high-quality coffee.

Cooperatives:

Two cooperatives have contributed to this coffee: Kawazamurabawe and Duteritekikawa. They are part of a group of cooperatives called COCOCA (Consortium of Coffee Growers Cooperative) which represents around 13,000 members in 42 cooperatives around Burundi. They collectively own a dry mill in Kayanza and have a much stronger access to market together.

Process:

The coffee is hand-sorted. In the washed process, the coffee cherries are fermented in tanks using a single-fermentation process and then dried in the sun for 7 days, using a humidity meter device and moved regularly to achieve even drying. Once dried the parchment coffee is moved to the warehouse to be assessed,  graded and stored in cool conditions to maintain quality.
